What does true china do?

True china helps people to read chinese local news. We also provide associated photos, maps and related news from western media to give you a full view on what is happening in China.

Why do you build this?

This site is built for people who are interested in China but couldn't read Chinese. What they could get today are news that have been 'filtered' and 'massaged' by international media companies or Chinese government. With machine translation, semantic web, mapping technology and high quality Creative Common licensed photos, for the first time in history people could read, with rich contextual helps, news in Chinese without getting a human involved.

We truely hope that this site could become a bridge that will lead to greater understanding between China and the rest of the world.

Interesting. So how does this work?

Three major chinese internet portals will aggregate more than 80% chinese newspapers onto their website. We use their data feeds as source, fire up our own algorithm to find out where does a news happen. Then we use Google Language API to translate news content into English. In order to provide more context about the news, we'll also fetch location-related photos from Flickr and news from Daylife.com. At the last step, we use Google Map to stitch everything together.
